Sunday 8th December 2024 – St. Peter’s Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I hope that you are keeping well.

A gentle reminder of what’s happening TOMORROW, Saturday:

Out and About Walk:  10am start, meet on Smithills Dean Rd at the turning to Smithills Hall.  A local walk finishing in time for the Smithills Christmas Market.

Smithills Christmas Market: 12.30pm-3.30pm

***Important notice from John and Adele on behalf of Smithills Fellowship, please read.

‘ As you will be aware the weather forecast tomorrow is going to be a major challenge with the predicted wind – Storm Daragh! So, we’ve made an advance contingency plan to MOVE and NOT CANCEL. We will lift the market and  move into St Peter’s Primary School (Limefield Road, BL1 6LA) for the same times, 12.30-3.30pm. We appreciate this will be a disappointment for many but please do still come along and support as there will still be plenty to join in with. There’ll be the outside beer marquee with local brews and mulled wine, a favourite for many, and food and drink inside with a range of foods and cakes to eat in or take away.  We’ll also have over 20 separate local craft sellers with plenty of individually made items and Christmas gifts. All will be accompanied by 5 choirs and, of course, Santa.  Do come and share some time with us. This event is a not-for-profit activity raising funds for Urban Outreach Bolton.’

There’s lots going on and coming up soon across the parish, so please take a moment to look at this week’s newsletter:

URGENT – Can you help steward please?

Dear Friends,

I’ve just received a message from Anna Hough from Barrow Bridge Mission who is co-ordinating stewards for this Sunday’s Parish-wide Vision Service in Bolton School at 11am.

We still need a few more people on Sunday morning who can be on hand to help direct people arriving for the service to where they need to be.  Is this something you can help out with?  If so, please get in touch directly with Anna on 07976396310 or [email protected].

Thank you for considering if you can help.  Your support will be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Dear Friends,

I hope you are having a good week.

A couple of reminders of events you may be interested in attending this weekend:

Our Soul Sisters’ Christian Mindfulness Walk is taking place tonight. Meet at 7pm outside the Parish Centre for a relaxed walk around Moss Bank Park followed by going to The Finishers Pub at 8pm. All ladies are welcome to join in with the walk and/or pub.

Churches and Chapels on the Air is taking place tomorrow from 10am-4pm in St Peter’s Church. This annual event sees churches across the UK and beyond contacting each other using Amateur radio.   All are welcome to join our vicar, Alan, and a team from Oldham Amateur Radio Club for the chance to operate the radio whilst learning about the fascinating world of radio communications. Refreshments provided, just come along.
